It's a nice little camper. But I don't think it would be too easy to camp in that with your wife and kids and no toilet. Unless of course you're always going to be at a campground that has facilities. My truck camper is 11 1/2 feet long and I have installed solar. So I have for facilities and can go off grid for up to two weeks at a time with no problem. Nothing wrong with your set up. But I think it might be a little tough with kids.
Robbery without a gun on that slide in camper. And, it was lacking a heap of stuff that most folks need. Build your own; I did and it was weatherproof.
Ally bodies will eventually need lots of silicone sealer to stop leaking in. The damage is usually done by then. 46 years in motor trade tells me think very carefully before you buy something with lots of seams and cover mouldings .
How can that dealership get by with all that BS stuff, added on? He sounds really shady. I think I'd threaten him with the attorney General. Good luck in whatever you decide!
No bathroom ? An RV must have a place to do your #1 and 2 , high priced for no restroom ?? Go with a tow trailer , a much better deal than these truck campers .
A ton is 2000 lbs, right? A half ton truck is in general a truck capable of hauling one half ton (1000 lbs) right? So this "light weight" camper weighing 1000 lbs is already at the maximum carrying capacity of the truck. I know truck manufacturers provide specifics in regard to maximum loads but I strongly suspect that buyers frequently buy truck campers the end up being far over the safe carrying weight of their vehicles once they are loaded with water etc.
I have a four wheel camper (aluminum, shell only 700 pounds) and I paid 1500 used, perfect condition. But watch your weight, with my 1/2 ton truck, I can hit the weight limit (1340 pounds) very quickly. The only way to go, for us, but weight is the big deal to watch out for. Another weakness of dealers–many of them, will tell you quite a story of how you are OK being overweight, don't believe em, math is not subjective.
Looking at all these BS charges is like when you have a propane tank outside of your house and you Movie in they charge a fee to reconnect it even though it’s still connected. I think they charge 300. Charging a yearly school fee even though you don’t have kids in school. Everyone is a crook nowadays
Dud Please speak up on your vids your very soft spoken. I have a hearing problem I have ear damage from the war's sorry but can't afford a hearing aid at this time. the V.A. What's $525 just for one. I need 6 more weeks Thanks bud ! And yea it looks great I'm thinking of the same thing. Maybe it's time to get out of a van for a while.
dealers are thieves…period. Ridiculous prices. Made my own truck camper, insulated, fantastic fan, 280 watt solar panel AND 3 BURNER STOVE…. 650$ Do it yourself buddy.
Live in Vancouver, rains everyday basically- kept my eyes open for a decent truck camper (if it rains everyday it's easy to find leaks) bought it in the winter so it would be wet out 5k- everything you want in a camper- just have to keep your eyes open,Hope your happy tho 🙂
I've subscribed to you and I watch every video but only like 2 minutes of them and I don't know why lol. This video more than any other felt like live golf commentary stay you dude.
email: CerritosHO@hotmail.com | Overhead bunk is too hot, or too cold, and very noisy in the rain, hard to support adults for intimate sharing. . It's also very hard to get down for the elderly. It's a useless area. All interior coverings must be leather covered and laminate floor coverings. The dinette is not a very good mattress for adults sleeping, is too lumpy. Wish roof solar collectors and AC was more flush mounted, as they get banged while driving. Im 6’6”, so sleep on floor, it is the easiest for tall owners. Window covers should be waterproof/ light proof. Wish patio awning button was on the interior and had a screen panels & floor. Interior LED lites are not elegant or hi tech enough. Side door entry is better for towing, easier to egress/ingress. Needs docking lites and recessed clearance lites. Needs hI tech alarm and glass shattering alarm. Windows need to be more private reflective glass for security from intruders. Micro-wave is ample, forget the stove/ oven. Needs icemaker on priv water tank for safe consumption.. Electric jacks are not convenient enough, espec for 4×4 dualies. Campers Designers need to look at some of the Airstream / Prevost/Yacht designers, as campers are becoming more and more used as a detached live-in sm. trailer, boondocking, aside from being truck mounted. I have owned camper for 50 Yr and driven more then 500,000K miles. Own 1970 Ford American Truck Camper, ( SC Fiberglass gel) made exclus by Ford.
Wow, a truck for only $2,000 – $3,000.00…? Well, being a guy, I guess you would know who to fix it. What is a girl to do if she wants a reasonably priced truckie with a camper that has a bathroom. BTW, I know a guy who purchased one of those truck campers without the bathroom, brand spanking new for only $9,000. His interview is on Enigmatic Nomadics. He spent $8K on the truck (used) and $9K on a brand new truck camper… he was able to get such a great deal on the camper because the person who owned the dealership was going out of business and sold it to him at cost! That a fantastic deal! Here is that video on his purchase and living in the camper. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDxU5tCtg9c&t=2208s
If you wanted to take the time, you could insulate the door with a door sized quilted pot holder (for lack of a better term. Take an old country blanket, sew some 1" X 1/2" sticks in it to stand it up straight and to form it into the shape of the door. Poof, you have a door quilt to act as insulation. Or you could use a sleeping bag and sew it into the shape of the door with the 1" X 1/2" sticks to keep it standing up straight.
this happensin my bathroom since we dont have a vent, this is a old house, I had to stop hanging my clothes in the closet in the bathroom because of it, i guess if you have good ventalation would not happen? hate dishonest dealers, adding all those fees are unjust why do you need to pay him to sell you something? documentation fee really? walk through? they should of done that as part of buying it to resell. creeps
Dealers practice ripping us off ever day they go to work. I haven't bought a new vehicle since '94, I remember paying something outrageous for undercoating, floor mats, temp tags and some other stupid crap. I don't even need temp tags in my state.
Working on a car ferry for more than thirty years I have seen thousands and thousands of campers. The one dead give away is silicone sealer gooped all over the outside. Water leaks. Almost all of them five years old had that done to them. All of them that had endured the vibration of a lot of road miles had it. The only ones I ever saw that didn't were molded two piece fiberglass. If it was aluminum siding and roofing with right angle joints they leaked. End of story. Even then penetrations could leak and often did. The propane furnaces and cooking in cool weather also added to the inside moisture load. If you pay 15 or twenty thousand bucks for something you don't want it to be worthless at resale time nor do you want to never use it because it is perpetually damp. Good advice is to look in an RV park in wet areas (here in Southeastern Alaska we get 170" rain and wind every year which make a very good test of water tightness and durability). They need to build them light so a truck can haul them yet built light generally means a lot of road flexing which can create or exacerbate leaks. If you never leave Arizona it is not much of a problem. Check them out very thoroughly before buying. Good luck. Doug
You mentioned the one huge advantage of a truck camper; the ability to switch from one truck to another. Also, you can jack up your camper and leave it somewhere while you run errands, or explore. You can do that with a trailer, but I hate towing, and backing a trailer in some tight spaces can be a real pain. The extra charges for the detailing is something I would refuse. Overall. that cost isn't too bad. Advice- look for used.
I appreciate the planning and execution that went into this. I would certainly build my own unit even though I'm not all that handy. The RV Travel Newsletter has been discussing quality problems in the RV industry for a few weeks now, and they and you are not the only sources for not buying new.
I had a great deal of trouble hearing your video until I turned everything up to 100% and used an earphone.
Arctic Fox builds very well, insulated for 4 seasons. Check them out. The Sonic light weight travel trailers are nice too. Full dry bath, larger space, a Murphy bed sofa combo. I could only do a truck camper with a slide. They're too small.

I don't want any kind of RV vehicle with use of propane. Watch the firefighter videos of RV on fire and you will want an all electric coach as well.

The only place I've seen a truck camper do good weather-wise is in the desert. All others were ruined by condensation and mold.
like the Van
You seem to have a problem with doors, just eliminate the door, you will never get into it, but the door issue is taken care of.
so how much for a used one?
Re
i saved 7500 by not buying from a dealer
there are hundreds of those available in the US market just saw one $4,800 for shower generator like new condition 2002 model
Nice video …
frig the dealer – TAKE THE VAN.

I wouldn't do it…..Just don't feel right…..Sorry Pal….I think you could get the price down more…Won't hurt to ask…..
If it's mandatory, it's not an option.

That is way too expensive for a truck camper with no toilet and shower. I'm going to look for one about two years old.
Nah don;t do it. What did you eventually do?
Thanks for sharing. Those guys, they will rip you off! They must have trained at a used car dealers lot. Lol
dealerships are such bologna
They want to shove something you don't need or want, they are messed up. Go for that van, you can fully stand up in it.
not familiar with the Canadian laws – look at the "mandatory" fees and options with a local official. Sounds like he just wants commission.
