Pitching a 3 season tent for winter use. A highlight from my full length video ‘Snow Hiking Vermont – Winter Backpacking & Frigid Camping in the Green Mountains ‘ http://www.sintax77.com
See the full length video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1dGKq3nMWA
I’ll also show my favorite backpacking snow shovel, as well as how I create some “dead man” anchors to secure my three season tent in the snow using regular plastic grocery bags, since aluminum spikes would simply slip out of place in the deep snow.
Tent shown is a Kelty Salida 2.
Location is the Big Branch Wilderness Area within Vermont’s Green Mountain National Forest.

That's an awesome trick! i wish i had seen that before going to camp in lofoten!
Another great vid man! Tent looks identical to my mountain hardware drifter tent! Good stuff!
Nice video! Found it while searching for the Kelty Salida 2. Considering the one person also. Do you still like it?
Haha "I'm really DIGGING this shovel"
Have you had any issues with your flip in the cold? Mine is cutting off.
That is a Kelty Salida2, looks like? Just bought one. I have a Moss Outland, bombproof.. Tiny though, almost claustrophobic. Your White Mtn's winter 2 nighter was really terrif. Big plus that you are so comfortable with the camera equipment…. thanks.
I am recent sub and do enjoy your vids alot.Very informative.I think I like your solo trips the best.Just sayin. Please keep them coming! Im originally from Chester Co. Pa. Great place to grow up.Love how you feel about nature,,SR
Some people even use tarps in winter, so it is not horribly wrong to use a 3-season tent in winter, but only in the wood, not on the top of the mountain)
Cool shovel!!! I been following your videos for a while and always enjoy watching and you have given me a few good ideas along the way thanks!
Thanks for sharing. Great stuff.
your videos alone have inspired me to take up hiking! i hope to venture into some terrain you have captured in your videos some day!
love the vids bro i watch em all! keep em coming
looking forward to the new vids!
Nice, can't wait for some more cool Stuff Sintax. Can i ask what battery bank charger you take with you? Atb Dixie from UK.
You already posted this footage :/
Heya Sintax! Good to see you getting out. I recently bought a 4 season tent and I'm stoked about it (Black Diamond Stormtrack) but I've used that kelty in the snow many times….still alive 🙂
Nice, another video from the stud himself, sintax77…love when the new videos come out. Looks like your living the dream…are you gonna be able to watch the eagles this weekend ?
Very cool, I'm guessing you made it out alive …….. unless your wife edited the video. 🙂
I have never camped in the snow or anything, but from my experience I wouldn't put snow up on the wall like that. You will likely die from snow-on-the-wall syndrome. Best of luck!
Right on.. I have a Kelty Gunison 2.1 and I love it.
I've never gone winter camping.. but I've wanted to try it.
Thanks for the video
Wow , zip that tent up, to keep the bugs out.
I live in an area where we have heavy wet snow and have always used a three season tent with no problems for many years. I think the key is to have a dome style tent as you do that sheds snow easily off the top. Four season tents for me would only be necessary for mountaineering. We have also been in some freezing rain storms and the three season held up just fine!
Nice video, I use a three season in winter as well but just ordered a Snugpak and going to try that out soon.
Don't put sow on your tent your going to die there i said it
New sub, been watching all your vids. I am enjoying your hiking content, thanks.
