Do you know the weight of your truck camper? Will a 3/4 ton truck be enough truck? Do I really need a dually? Axle ratio?
And a few other questions.
Thanks for watching

I'm a complete novice when it comes to vehicles. Looking at some of the comments, I see Dodge and Ford mentioned. What about a Chevy truck and a camper?
i would only go with a dulley. one tire blows your screwed
you sold me on the Duallys in this video. good information. Thank you.
If you're not planning much off roading then you better off with a 2 wheel drive because a 4×4 has less of a payload because of the two drive axles.
My 8ft camper was 1100lbs after I gutted it and took it to the Land fill. Which means I was way overloaded on a heavy half ton. GVWR of right around 6200lbs IIRC, still drove good but I also have timbren overloads and a SM465
.
SRW vs DRW. Duals are better on the highway single is a much better on snow or off-road. I would opt for SRW
That was interesting. Ive never weighed my rig. I worked in an RV plant but I never paid much attention to the weights. Now Im curious to look into it.
Thank you so much! All your info is much appreciated.
Great video with great advice
if you look at the purchase of the truck as a bases are covered – if you upgrade campers later then you don't have to buy a different truck.
I have a friend who has dual rear wheels and he uses super singles to be able to go off road better. the reason he did that was he had gotten a rock in between his duals and shredded his inside tire. he also when with a custom aluminum flat bed that is contoured and tapered. he does find tight spots but handles them well with the super singles and the flat bed.
Was thinking of going small no-slide class c but now your videos got me thinking truck camper…Damn it and thanks a lot…lol…good job guy.
you axle ratio is 3.54 or 4.10 as those were the only option in those years with your configuration
What do you do with your tailgate when camper is attached? Do some stash it on the roof?
good video.. keep it coming bud
Having had one of each SRW (single rear wheel) & dually I can say the dually definitely adds more stability. You'll never regret have another set of tires underneath you while rolling down the road. If you choose to go SRW but you're pushing your limits, you can always upgrade to 19.5" tires. I can't stress enough how important it is to have the proper rated tires for your load.
WCR is giving you great info! Yes buy as much truck as you can afford. Even if you have to back off a couple years to get the dually (if that's what you need). Also another thing to think about is beach driving like WCR mentioned about off-roading. Gasser vs Diesel.
I've followed Gordon (Truck Camper Magazine) for years and there's a ton of fantastic info on the website.
Love these videos WCR!! Great Job!! ~M
great advice bud, dulies here , lady was turning into me and forced me up the curb and killed my sidewall on curb, woke up to a flat , but still had one more to drive on until i could get to garage, im with you .
That pretty well sums it up on advice. I have yet to weigh my truck and camper loaded and ready to go. I have the small gas engine. Subtract the weight of the tailgate 100#. Camper is supposed to weigh by the sticker 2945 wet, 2 propane tanks, 35 fresh, 50# in fridge. It puts me right about the line. Take care,,,
What's up west coast! Love your channel great info. Any plans to come east? Great camping here in Michigan.
I was surprised to hear your camper almost put you at max weight. I'm sure you ride with empty holding tanks while traveling. That will shave a few off as well.
I've got a Ford 450 but I hear really good things about the Dodge diesel trucks (I don't hear good things about their gas trucks). They use the Cummings diesel in their dullie trucks and you can't get much better than that. But I do like my Ford.
You might discuss the other confusing numbers in truck buying. Like GVWR vs.GAWR.
