Last year we installed plasti dip on our camper van after a quick cost/benefit analysis. This is a review on how the plasti dip durability was.

Nate and Steph are a couple of crazy adventurers who decided that life was too short to spend their time and money accumulating “stuff.” So, they set out in an RV in January 2016 to travel North America and replace their stuff with experiences. In March 2017, they sold their RV and bought a Sprinter Van, which they built out into a campervan to continue their travels and adventures in #vanlife style.
Both originally from the small town of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Nate and Steph enjoy learning about new cultures and experiencing different ways of life across the world. They like to meet new people from all walks of life and just sit and have a beer with whoever shows up. It’s all about spontaneity in this life!
They travel with their two pups, Pyros and Sparta, who have become great travelers and adventure pups as well.

if cost is an issue how come you’ve spent a fortune on an aluminess roof rack and storage boxes ?
The weight is way off. Dipyourcar channel weighed his plasti dip for a car and it was like 1.5 lbs, so double or triple a car amount and max is like 5 lbs
Yo answer one of the q and a questions… Plasti Dip IS an insulator.
Nice review. Do you think the plasti dip would be a good choice for a camper trailer frame, or would the line-x be more durable?
A great review for someone considering it. Thanks!
Very impressive for lack of rock chip damage, mainly to the front. After watching your video on painting your van I got to wondering about using Plastic Dip on the inside areas where bare metal will be showing (around back windows/door, side door, etc.). I thought about carpet but don't like the idea of it getting and staying wet from rain and snow. Do you think the Plastic Dip on the inside bare metal would help any with temperature and condensation, I spend a lot of time in the mountains? Vinyl upholstery materiel was my other thought but finding it hard to apply and look good.
It looks awesome !!!
Love the van!!!!
Excellent job
Do you really have no windows in this van ? And how does that work for you ?
Nice! I got an old truck with peeling paint that I might plasti-dip. You've inspired me.
There are clear vinyl strips designed specifically for high use areas that could possible help on the door edges and such. I use it on my bikes to prevent cable rub against the carbon fiber.
Oh God if I have to hear you refer to a chip as a ding one more time I'm probably going to scream.
The weight question isn't crazy, van payloads aren't infinite. Adding 80 lbs isn't totally insignificant. It's also not critical I suppose… but a lot of builders don't even think about weight, they just cart in gazillions of pounds of wood planks, 2x4s and steel and heavy insulation and rock on without a clue. Exceeding the GVWR is an issue in several ways, including legal. Just sayin'.
Oh, and as for the color itself, I like it, especially for an adventure van. If you park a white van in nature somewhere, it stands out enormously and is frankly something of an eyesore. A muted color like this, or maybe something in an olive green, would be far less jarring in a natural setting. There's no such thing as stealth in cities anyway, if a van is parked where it's not supposed to be you get the knock anyway. And then the tow, if you don't answer the knock.
Hi very much enjoying your videos, as in a couple of years I'm going to build my own and retire to my adventures, thank you again from 60 year old Co native, best regards to you both Rand
Does it reduce the road sound?
Butt ugly color choice.
Awesome! Great color btw. Thanks for all the information 🙂
Looks great after 1 year. I'm sure the insulation question is from the plasti dip web site that talks about insulating values of dipping tools. The cost does justify your choice. My class A RV cost to paint is ~20-25K. Wrap is 12K. Just might think about plasti dip…. But it would be a lot a paint !
You did this video a nice funny way.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
You should pop the bubble and let the moisture out so it won't rust your van. I had the same thing happen to the B-pillar on a truck and left it alone thinking the paint would protect it but it rusted at the seam where it was stamped and had no paint.
Looks nice – are you going to touch it up and do you plan to strip it off at some point ? For the weather you've been through, looks like it helds up very well. How many coats was it originally ?
Nate, I own a Cirrus Camper also, I do have solar on it already, factory install. not a great system, do you have a list of the equipment you used. I would also like to know how you went about installing the monitor on the panel on the side of Fridge and over the stove. My little 200w system has no monitor except Bluetooth. The controller is actually under the step where the distribution block is installed. What solar panels did you use? Thanks in advance for any info.
Is that your smaragdine van out there?
I really love your videos/editing, you both seem like to awesome adventure peeps. You should check out my van (@bearsbuilds). I have been in it for about a year and a half… I will be posting some videos to youtube of the build soon. I was just going to say that I painted the entire van for $500 with truck bed liner. The product is called T-Rex Bed liner, very touch stuff. I did a really crappy job so it didn't turn out well but that was in no way the liners fault. I could have used another box of it AND I could have saved cost by getting the tint (color) from somewhere other than an auto body shop (tint was $100 and the liner was $400). I did get a discount from them for buying four large kits. Anyhow, just thought I would throw it out there. Your van turned out far far better than mine. The trouble with texture is that it is not as forgiving when you spray it, I learned my lesson! Cheers : )
"It´s that your white van right there?" LMAO
What is the purpose of doing plasti dip?
