When we started living in a van, we had no idea what our monthly van life expenses would be. We knew that our van life expenses would be lower than our apartment expenses, and they are, but it was hard to gauge how much living in a van actually costs before we lived it.
Hopefully, this helps YOU gauge how much living in a van will cost you and what your 1 month van life expenses will be. Any questions? Comment below!

Hey guys! A lot of you have been concerned about our coffee expenses, which is understandable 😉 I don’t think we were quite clear in the video. We need wifi to work so we work at cafes because we love getting to know the coffee scene in the different cities we’re in. The reason the bill is so high is because we value supporting independently owned cafes and will tip well and order multiple drinks if we’re there for a long time. We're fully aware that there are other ways to go about finding internet, but we find that we're more productive in these settings.
interesting , you really know what your talking and doing… LOL
Thank you, this helped me a lot.
350 a month for grocery…. meanwhile the homeless firefighter spending 950
Just came across your video. I like the vibe, the honesty, the sincerity. Don't pay any mind to the people who are razzing you about your coffee or eating out or groceries. They're being childish…and they've channeled their jealousy into this nitpicking. I'm happy you're saving so much money and having a great adventure. Now is the time to do it and you'll have fantastic memories.
Isn’t that to little for two people 4K honestly don’t know I’m like 15.
I genuinely don’t understand all the people saying they make so much money. This is the equivalent of two full time jobs a little bit above minimum wage. Is the comment section filled with people working half time for min wage?
And minimalism doesn’t mean “extreme budgeting”. Get off their asses about the coffee. Jfc lol
Respect to you guys! The van life comment sections attract so many hater ass people it’s bizarre lol
Hey guys I really appreciate that u add this video for us I have one question what kind a works do you do must of the video that I see for RV or campers is that most of the peoples work online I really want to change my living lifestyle to more similar but I have full time job
This doesn't make any sense to me. Your expenses are higher than mine and I am a single parent paying 1450 a month for a 2 bedroom condo in central Florida. You don't even have a toilet. But this is how you want to live so you can spend hundreds of dollars a month on coffee? OK
He talks over her all the time…didn’t finish the video
You guess are awesome
very helpful, thanks 🙂
you dont have to be moving around just cause you live in a van. I got a $10 a month membership at Planet Fitness gym. You toss away a lot of money to be moving more than twice a year (to avoid cold and heat).
I did it for 3 years, not long ago, on 5k a year.
no one is answering the important questions here which is WHAT JOB GIVES YOU 1000 DOLLARS A WEEK???
That's pretty cool, thanks for sharing. I see this was posted over a year ago, hope you are still enjoying travelling. I would love to do that now…perhaps when we retire. I work in a VA hospital, so I can't travel now.
Whoa. So you could save $650/mo by not eating out and not getting coffee. That's massive.
Haha i get 50 gb of data for my hotspot
What job do you have?
Beer?
Emergency fund? Should be separate from savings. Fun fund? Laundry? Campsite? Parking? http://thedirtydarlings.com/how-much-vanlife-cost/
COUPONS! Starbucks card!
health insurance for living in a van?
Yeah that's, why it's better to retire for us in Europe coz it's cheaper, we have free Medicare, cheaper insurance free school, dental, optician,
Omg you move in a campervan to reduce expenses, your expenses still too high way much much cheaper in UK for 500 pound you can live comfortably in a campervan
Cheaper here in uk
Jesus it's very expensive insurance
Man what kind off bull! With Verizon I pay 220 for two iPhones and we share 8gbs since we’re always on WiFi
Loose the GF and you will be really rich!
Ok what type jobs do you two have do you work from home and if so where
You guys are clearly digital nomads. Maybe I don't know as much about you as some of the others do. I am new to your channel. What kind of work do you guys do?
Best way to capitalize on the vanlife is to target the highest income richest area with the highest housing prices. And you get a decent job you'll come up fast. And if anybody asks you any questions, just tell em you can't afford housing around there and there's no help for you cuz you're not a crazed drug addict.
The nesscesary stuff is basically the same as it would be in a nonvan lifestyle.
Interesting healthcare idea. I just recently learned that they have a Christian religious health insurance too.
I wouldn't even really count the insurance and basic vehicle expenses into the equation because you still need a vehicle anyway even in a house.
I just hunt and fish to cut my costs down. I think it is healthier also.
that's insane!! I live in a Sprinter full time, travel all over the US, and I'm vegan, and I spend less than half of that. Not including diesel, I spend less than a quarter of what you do, and that's for 2 of us!
Oh my gosh, you, ma'am, look like Farrah Fawcett! Ignore people's negative comments. You don't have to justify or explain your income/expenditures or lifestyle to anyone. What you do is your business. And high five to you for doing your own thing! I wish I had known this stuff and had these options when I was young. But I grew up in the era of the old paradigm of "Go to college, get an education, get a good job, pay your taxes, buy a house and retire with a pension". Well I played that game and did everything I was told to do, then the economy crashed and so did my assets and future. Anyway, you are young and living free. That's fantastic. Do what you want and avoid negative people. Keep enjoying life!
friggin hell car insurance is expensive in the US
OMG thank you SO much for your honesty in the break down! I'm so tired of other channels going out of their way to deceive their viewers
Good video, useful info, thank u
She's a hump me= dump me proposal
you are so cool!!! The new cool!!! I have muy son looking at you for inspiration before he starts his working life…he is 12 now…Great INSPIRATION!
Thanks for your transparency!
You need a physical address for Verizon, State Farm etc., no? What if you’re permanently on the road w/o a physical address?
When you’re not eating out you guys cook? Doesn’t look like the van is hooked up for a stove or similar.
When you buy lots of groceries how do you refrigerate, especially hot weather? Thanks! Good stuff!
Am I missing something? There's no expenditure for ground rent ie payment for where the van parks up overnight which in the UK would easily be £100 per week
Y'all are dumb.
